Listed by the National Historical and Artistic Institute ( Iphan). The temple began to be designed in 1747 and there existed only an oratory, dedicated to Our Lady of Lapa, a meeting point of traders and merchants. Closed after a period, the church was returned to the public and recently had its altar restored so that cariocas and visitors alike may contemplate this work.
