The city of Niterói is located 13 km away from the Rio capital and has several attractions that fascinate tourists and locals. The visit to the Smile City (as it’s called) can be made by crossing the Rio-Niterói Bridge, or by sea, taking the fairies.

The second place in the world with more works designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, Niterói holds, on a land by the sea, popular architectonic complex, made of seven beauty, with the aim of promoting art and culture that, along with MAC – Contemporary Art Museum – form a path along the shore called Caminho Niemeyer (“Niemeyer Path”). MAC “rises” from the ground on a single cylinder base which holds the whole building, anchored by a huge foundation. Its visual is complete by a pond that gives the building some lightness. The big external ramp of red concrete leads the visitor through free curves to the engine of the superior pavilions.

The Santa Cruz Fortress, located in the Jurujuba neighborhood, has a collection of from the 18th and 19th century, as well as the Chapel dated from 1612, with a statue of Saint Barbara from the 18th century. The fortress is located by the entering canal of the Guanabara Bay, where all the ships that come to the Rio de Janeiro port pass through. It is a place to behold the natural beauties of our region. The Parque da Cidade park is ecologic reservation area of the city, located on the top of the Viração hill, 270m high, occupying an area of 149,388.90m². It has an overlook with a panoramic view of Lagunas, the Oceanic Beaches, all the Niterói neighborhoods, and the open sea, as far as the eye can see. The Park has two ramps for hang gliding and paragliding, so the lovers of these sports frequent it a lot.

1,200m long and with a vegetation made of almond trees and coconut trees, the Icaraí Beach is the city most known beach. It has space for the practice of several sports, and a sidewalk that allows for jogging and walking, or simply for enjoying the beautiful view. It is also the stage of the biggest events promoted in the city like concerts and the New Year’s Eve. From it, you can see the Pedra do Índio rock, the Pedra de Itapuca rock, the MAC museum, as well as Christ the Redeemer, and the Sugarloaf. The Itacoatiara Beach, on the other hand, is 700m long and is among an exuberant vegetation. Its waters are clear and blue. A paradise for the surfers, it serves as a stage for several competitions, it is small, and it’s one of the beaches where the young people most go to. On the right corner is “Prainha”, a paradise for children, a tiny beach completely protected from the waves.
