Built in 1914, on the site of the old Church of Our Lady of Copacabana, the Fort’s mission was to reinforce the defense of Guanabara Bay. With an area of 114,169 m², it was considered, at the time, the most modern War Square in Latin America. 70 years later, the Coastal Artillery Batteries were deactivated, giving way to the Army Historical Museum. Today, the space is an important center for preserving military memory and also a place of leisure and culture in Rio de Janeiro. The Fort maintains its original features, such as the 12 meter thick external walls, facing the sea. Right at the entrance, the Coat of Arms of the Republic welcomes visitors, symbolizing the importance of this historical heritage.

In addition to its cultural and historical relevance, Copacabana Fort also stands out for its gastronomy. Confeitaria Colombo has been offering its traditional menu for 21 years. Café 18 do Forte, more modern, serves options for breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day, with a privileged view of the Copacabana and Leme waterfront, two of the most charming neighborhoods in Rio. If you haven’t visited yet, it’s worth It’s worth exploring this unique space, full of history and beautiful landscape
