Arraial do Cabo is a Brazilian city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, located at the Lake Region, 140 kilometers away from the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ). It is an atlantic paradise surrounded by beaches that enchant locals and tourists alike. The city gathers some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Brazilian coast, such as dunes, sandbanks, lagoons, beaches and headlands. It has a humid and warm weather, with an average temperature of 25°C in summers and ranging from 17°C to 23°C on winters.

It is a coastal city with an average altitude of only 8 meters. Founded in 1985 after the emancipation from Cabo Frio. The city has 26.636 inhabitants according to the 2008 IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) census.

Divers are thankful for the existence of this city, as that’s where they find the best diving spots in the country. Aside from the clear waters, Arraial do Cabo is home to a diverse marine life – there are turtles, Atlantic goliath groupers, squids, stingrays and even dolphins who live in harmony on the isles of Farol and Porcos, on the sandbags of Cherne and Cordeiro, the Forno beach, on Ponta d’Agua and on Gruta Azul.

Besides the natural beauties, the city is also attractive due to its prices – from restaurants to inns, the rates are much more generous than those of its surroundings. There are no luxury establishments in Arraial, but you can find comfort as well as the best seafood dishes in the region.

The boat rides also have accesible prices and are a must-see, as they present enchanting views and make a stop at Farol Beach, one of the most beautiful in the country. Not to mention the sunsets at Pontal do Atalaia, another must-see that is completely free!
