Starting as a block – Spanta Neném – the gathering of artists and Carnival enthusiasts has been upgraded since 2020, with the launch of the Universo Spanta festival. This festival brings a true marathon of shows that will energize yet another Rio summer. Throughout all weekends in January, the event aims to warm up the audience for Carnival, with a joy that already reached new heights in the first weekend of the year. The celebration takes place by the shores of Guanabara Bay, at Marina da Glória.

The program offers a variety of generations and musical rhythms to cater to the tastes of diverse audiences, with established artists and emerging talents, in addition to promoting unprecedented collaborations.

This Friday (January 10), the audience can enjoy performances from Jão, Luísa Sonza, Priscilla, the group Jovem Dionísio, and Alan Rosa. The following day, Saturday, January 11, Universo Spanta will host a funk session with MC Carol, Valesca Popozuda, Tati Quebra Barraco, Jorge & Mateus, Glória Groove, Pedro Sampaio, Jorge Aragão, and the Bahian group Àttooxxá, which blends “pagodão” (a samba-derived urban rhythm) and peripheral sounds from various parts of Brazil and the world with global bass culture, from soundsystems to electronic music. To enhance the pre-Carnival vibe, the successful parades from the 2024 edition are confirmed, with samba schools Portela and Salgueiro bringing drummers, passistas, and the mestre-sala and porta-bandeira to the Spanta runway.

Wrapping up the first weekend of the event, on Sunday (January 12), the shows will feature artists straight from the Northeast: the Pernambuco duo Almério and Martins, Zé Ramalho, accompanied by his children Linda and João, and the singer and multi-instrumentalist Lucy Alves. Also performing are singers Juliana Linhares and Natascha Falcão. The parade will feature the traditional blocks Boi de Miracema, Rio Maracatu, and Noites do Norte.
