Main Church of Our Lady of Candelaria

Built at the end of the XVI century or beginning of XVII century, in neoclassical style, the Church stands out visually for its dome, made from lioz stone. Its interior is completely covered with marble, the ceiling of the ship, illustrated by six panels, by the artist Zeferino da Costa, tells the origins of the church. The side chapels are dedicated to the most Holy Sacrament and to Our Lady das Dores.

Located on the top of São Bento Hill, next to Mauá Square, the architectural complex, includes the Abbey Church of Our Lady of Montserrat, it is considered one of the most important historical land religious heritages of the 17th century. Its exterior aspect is austere and contrasts with the richness of its interior: the gold-leafed baroque carvings plated in 18 carat gold: the main altar and its silver lamps houses in the center the image of the head of the church flanked by Saint Benedict and Saint Scholastic.

The Church takes us back to the XVIII century, and it was built between the years of 1700 and 1725. In the middle of the 19th century the facade was renovated, maintaining the Portico and the preserved towers.The restoration project signed by architect Lúcio Costa, used trusses and wooden balustrades in the tribunes of the main chapel, giving it an aura of dignity. The church houses the Black Museum with its own collection and library.
Our Lady of Lapa of Mercadores

Listed by the National Historical and Artistic Institute ( Iphan), the Church of Our Lady of Mercadores is the oldest and one of the most beautiful religious buildings of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The temple began to be designed in 1747 and there existed only an oratory, dedicated to Our Lady of Lapa, a meeting point of traders and merchants. Closed after a period, the church was returned to the public and recently had its altar restored so that cariocas and visitors alike may contemplate this work.

Presbyterian Church of Rio de Janeiro

The Cathedral was one of the first churches of this religion in the country, and it was founded in 1862. It was listed by the artistic heritage of Rio de Janeiro, and the building has neo-gothic lines and a modern artistic lighting; at night its external grayish brown walls become a multicolored surface.
