Reopened on July on this year after a restoration process that took 6 years, the casarão and the São João de Batista Chapel are fully operating, while the museum’s main mansion is still undergoing renovations, and is set to reopen in December of this year. Along with the exhibitions, the Museu  Histórico da Cidade offers a virtual tour in its tri-language website, where it is possible to see  approximately 200 items, from the banners of the 19th century, to photographs by Debret and engravings by Thomas Ender, and even the blueprints for the opening of the Central Av.. The website also allows you to read up on the history of the construction of the Conjunto Arquitetônico and the City Park.

After going through the bustling Marquês de São Vicente and going to Estrada Santa Marinha, in Gávea, it is possible to see the beautiful entrance of the Parque Natural Municipal da Cidade (Municipal Natural Park), commonly known as Parque da Cidade (City Park). It  is inside that 470-thousand-squaremeter area, away from the sounds of the urban centers and closer to nature, that you can find the Museu Histórico da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro Historical Museum), created in 1934 to house objects that represent the city’s history. The collection has approximately 24 thousand items, including photography collections, watercolors, engravings and lithographs, among others.
