The heart of North Zone.
With about 93 thousand square meters, the park is one of the largest in the city, with an area equivalent to 14 fields of Maracanã stadium. The park is not only superlative in their actions, but also in items and leisure options offered to residents of Rio’s North Zone. Volleyball courts, basketball and football, plus a synthetic grass field for football matches share space with fountains, streams, gazebos, skate park, orchard and toys.
Altogether there are 800 native trees, 50 palm trees, and flowers and 31,500 square meters of grass, making largely wooded area. Sustainable practices, such as solid waste control, use of rainwater, capture and use of solar energy and energy-saving lighting are part of everyday life of the park. The park, which follows the railway line that cuts through the neighborhood, still has two cultural centers: the Arena Carioca, who will receive cultural performances, and the Samba Square, space dedicated to the genre so influential in the neighborhood that has its the elderly Rio’s samba schools – Portela and Império Serrano.
