On April of 2015, Café Lamas had its 141st Birthday. Ruy Barbosa, Machado de Assis, Olavo Bilac, Monteiro Lobato and João do Rio used to frequent the establishment, as did the politicians Oswaldo Aranha, Getúlio Vargas and Epitácio Pessoa. Manuel Bandeira wrote the folllowing about the restaurant: “Café Lamas remains open, immortal, and from this immortality that is identical to nature’s, the place manages to renew itself with each passing year by the power of Spring.”
