Between the years of 1950 and 1980, about 40 stands on Rio squares became a symbol of the city’s bohemian lifestyle.

Artists, celebrities, politicians, workmen, journalists ans taxi drivers could be regulary seen at Gomes, the cheap, delicious and juicy “hunger satisfier”. In order to stop feeling nostalgic about Gomes, Angu do Gomes restaurant was reopened in December 2009 in Largo São Francisco da Prainha, in Praça Mauá. Previously, the restaurant was at nunber 41, from where the satnds with two big pots filled with angu (similar to polenta) and small pieces of beef. The house’s main dish may be filled with pepperoni, jerked beef, chicken, minced beef, and smoked soy meat with rocotta.
