The dishes of Naturalie Bistrô are prepared with organic and fresh ingredients, are the creation of Chef Nathalie Passos, who specialized in vegetarian cuisine on the renowned Natural Gourmet Institute for Health & Culinary Arts in New York. In 2015, the restaurant was declared the best natural restaurant of Rio by the “Comer & Beber” (Eat & Drink) Prize of Veja Rio Magazine. The establishment, divided between two floors, has a capacity of 80 people and has a communal table for 12, encouraging interaction between them. A wood-fired oven on a corner, a grocery store selling the vegetables of the day, blackboards with nutritional information written with chalk and a shelf holding recipe books and Nathalie’s personal objects make up the decoration.
Highlights include the Veggie “Feijoada” (black beans stew with vegetables), the zucchini lasagna and the “Hamburguilho”, wheat middling burger with carrots and black olives, smoked broccoli, tomato and mustard sauce and honey on whole grain bread. The juices have various different combinations, such as the “Alcalino”, for example, which is made of lime, coconut water, lemon grass, and honey. Desserts can be ordered with no guilt. Order the almond and 100% cocoa brownie – vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free, with peanuts and hazelnuts caramel and banana sorbet with cocoa nibs; or the whole-wheat apple crumble, with honey and Naturalie granola. The flavored waters of the day, exposed in glass juice jars on the counter, add a special touch to the place and are free to the customers.
