Inaugurated in 1909, the Municipal theatre is one of the main show houses of Brazil and Latin America. Currently, it got a big reform, where gems like a large original panel of the Italian Eliseu Visconti was rescued. Important areas of it was restored, with a highlight to the impressive eagle of 350kg that garnishes the construction top, it earned 8 thousand gold papers 23 karats of gilding.
Over less than a century of the history, the Municipal Theatre earned big international artists and important names of the Brazilian culture, including dancing representatives, music, opera and performing arts. The project that started the beginning of the construction of Municipal theatre was made from the fusion of architectural projects of Francisco de Oliveira Passos and the French Albert Guilbert, tied the contest for creation of the new theatre design. This design was inspired on the Paris Opera. Since the 30 decade, the Municipal theatre of Rio de Janeiro has the worry to keep an own artistic body. Today is the unique Brazilian cultural institution to keep simultaneously a choir, a symphony orchestra and a ballet company.

The transport is available for 50 people per ride and the tickets sale starts 30 minutes before of each visit. The tickets can be purchased just on the Theatre booking office.
