The Imperator – João Nogueira Cultural Center reopened in multidisciplinary format with space for concerts, exhibitions, cinema and gastronomy.
Opened officially in the 1950’s, Imperator was then held as one of the main culture points of Rio’s North zone. It was one of the biggest movie theaters in Latin America, it ended its activities and reopened in the 90’s as a concert venue, and it received important national and international music celebrities. Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel and Tina Turner are just some of the names that helped make the space one of the city icons. After its climax, Imperator fell into ostracism for 16 years, and in 2012 it reopened its doors in the multidisciplinary format it runs today. Besides the space for concerts and shows, it has an exhibition room and a movie theater, as well as a pleasant garden and restaurant.
