Opened in 1972, the traditional and award-winning bar in the city’s North Zone has the typical suburban bar ambience. Next to Leopoldina train station, it is run by Ms. Donzília Gomes, a Portguese woman who has been in Brasil since 1968. She is the one who works the dough and prepares the delicacies that please the loyal clientele. Among which, are the cassava and jerked beef croquettes. The tidbits menu includes salt-cod croquettes and shrimp pastel (fried stuffed pastry), all for the same price. On Sundays only, the place serves pork rinds.
The space has historical importance too. There, Pixinguinha, who live in the neighborhood, and guitarist Baden Powell met each other. Such meeting was registered by French musician Pierre Barouh in the documentary Saravah. At the time, Donzília did not run the house.
